A SIGNATURE HOTEL

Every metre, every corner, every tree, every decorative element..., everything in Cap Menorca has first been conceived in Laurent Morel-Ruymen's mind. Fondateur du Mare e Terra Group, this is his most personal project: converting a former military base into a luxury place of relaxation with minimal intervention and letting nature be the real protagonist.

Relais & Chateaux

TWO STORIES AND ONE DESTINY

The importance of two stories converge in the creation of this Relais & Châteaux. That of one man, Laurent Morel-Ruymen, who imagined how this corner of the Mediterranean could become a luxury hotel surrounded by lush nature; and that of the former military base of Llucalari which had been abandoned since 1994.

Conservar el legado de menorca

PRESERVING MENORCA'S LEGACY

“The greatest compliment anyone can pay us is that we have made a minimal intervention in this extraordinary place, that we have reduced the human footprint as much as possible so that guests can live in harmony with nature”.

These Laurent Morel-Ruymen's words perfectly define his vision of Cap Menorca; his idea when he discovered this land with its military past in a unique setting on the south coast of Menorca and with views on the horizon to neighbouring Mallorca.

El pasado militar de llucalari

THE MILITARY PAST OF LLUCALARI

The Llucalari military base occupied the cliff area just above Cala Llucalari, a virgin, almost secret beach very close to Son Bou. Its prominent military past was cut short in 1953 due to a serious accident; from then on its facilities changed use until 2014, when they were acquired by the french businessman Laurent Morel-Ruymen.

Diez años para ver la luz

TEN YEARS TO SEE THE LIGHT

It has taken 10 years of negotiations, permits, changes of plans... to convert this former military base into a Relais & Château; a difficult task with a surprising result due to its authenticity and uniqueness.

This listed estate of 30 hectares plus 1km of coastline, shaded by pine trees, centenary olive trees, palm trees and bougainvillea, houses 15 luxury suites, all with private garden and swimming pool.

The hotel's outdoor living combines with the comfort and thoughtful design of its interiors. Laurent Morel-Ruymen has personally designed the different spaces for Studio Mare e Terra, as if it were a small Menorcan village. He has chosen natural vernacular materials such as hand-hammered green terracotta, matt white marble, green painted woodwork, teak furniture and natural leather. The result is surprising, combining a chic ethnic spirit with the comfort of all the rooms.

The decoration adds artistic elements such as the paintings made by the Deux-ce workshop as a tribute to Poliakoff and a series of photographs taken on site before the works by the French photographer Nicolas Guerin.
